After a decent nights mackerel fishing last night on Whitby's west pier the sea had roughed up a bit today so I headed out with the big rod and a dozen peelers. I fished 2 hours at one of my favourite early season marks. I managed 3 size codling (returned 2 and kept 1 which was deeply hooked) and 2 just under size with quite a few more bites. The 3 fish that were size were all 37 cm long so it looks like a fish measure is going to be an essential item for fishing the matches this year.
Anyone unfamiliar with the legal fish sizes can check out the nfsa size limits on theWhitby sea anglers website
