Filey Angling Festival got off to a racing start on Saturday thanks to some very large shoals of Mackerel around our coasts at the moment.
The winning weight on the Saturday, the opening day of the festival, was a massive 103 pounds taken by Dave Bielby who was fishing at Filey Brigg. The heaviest fish of the day went to Mick Chadwick with a cod of 5 pounds.
Sundays Filey Festival match was cod only with Mick Chadwick coming out on top with 14lb of cod.
With autumnal weather imminant the mackerel should soon disperse bringing normaility back to our fishing and the prospects look good for the cod anglers with fish now showing at most marks.
This weekend sees the filey festival drawing to a close with Saturdays match being for the heaviest fish and Sunday is the festivals premier event The North of England codling championship.
